Full Professor of Computer Science.

I'm teaching:

• 'Human-Computer Interaction' in the 3-year 'Laurea Breve' in Informatics and Communication and
• 'Intelligent Interfaces' in the 5-year 'Laurea Specialistica' in Informatics.
  

In the previous years, I was responsible for the Course of 'Medical Informatics' and of some introductory Courses of CS ('Programming' and 'Programming Languages').

I coordinated several European Community Projects both in the Research and Development area and in the teaching area (ERASMUS and SOCRATES).

My research interests are focused on the following areas:

• user-adapted generation of natural language and multimedia messages
• uncertainty in user models
• affective factors in human-computer interaction
• 'natural' dialogs with Embodied Animated Agents

I'm the author of several publications about intelligent interfaces .

I'm a member of the ACM, of the International Society for Research on Emotions, of the European Network of Excellence on Emotions (HUMAINE) and of the Editorial Board of ' User Modeling and User-Adapted Interaction' and Recent Patents On Computer Science. I also cooperate with the Journal In Cognito, Cahiers Romans de Sciences Cognitives.

I was the Guest Editor of Some Special Issues of Journals on Affective Computing (for UMUAI and for Applied Artificial Intelligence) and am now organizing, with Sandra Carberry (University of Delaware) a new Special Issue of UMUAI on 'Affective Modeling and Adaptation' . I organized some Workshops in this area, in 1999 , in 2001 and in 2005

I contributed to organize several International Meetings in the area of Intelligent Interfaces.
